In a decisive home opener on Saturday night, Davidson showcased a dominant performance against Catawba, a Division-II team, winning 49-14. The Wildcats' ground game was particularly impressive, amassing 399 rushing yards and scoring six touchdowns on 56 carries. Mason Sheron was a standout player, scoring three touchdowns, including a remarkable 79-yard run that put Davidson ahead for good after Catawba had briefly tied the game. Sheron opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Catawba responded with a touchdown pass from Preston Brown to Bo Pryor, but Sheron's long run shifted the momentum back to Davidson. He later added another touchdown with a 4-yard run in the third quarter, solidifying his team's lead. Mari Adams also contributed significantly, scoring two touchdowns, including a 75-yard run in the fourth quarter. He led the Wildcats in rushing yards with 128 on 15 carries, complementing Sheron's performance, who rushed for 108 yards on 10 carries. On the other side, Catawba's quarterback, Preston Brown, completed 22 of 33 passes for 181 yards, throwing two touchdowns but also an interception.
