In the UK, the parcel delivery company Evri reported on its impressive performance for the year ending in February. The company delivered more than 807 million parcels, which marks an 11% increase compared to the previous year, where delivery numbers stood at 730 million. Over two years, this figure has surged by 25%, reflecting a significant upward trend in parcel deliveries. Furthermore, Evri's revenue also saw a notable rise, climbing 12% to reach £1.85 billion compared to the same period last year, underlining a robust business growth trajectory. This remarkable growth can be attributed to the increasing popularity of second-hand marketplaces, such as eBay and Vinted, which have gained traction among consumers. The ongoing trend of buying and selling items online has opened new avenues for parcel firms, including Evri. The rise of social media platforms, particularly TikTok's shopping features, is reshaping consumer behavior, fueling a shift towards online shopping and consumer-to-consumer transactions. Evri's chief executive, Martijn de Lange, noted that the company has been expanding its client base into diverse sectors, which include fresh food, car parts, and floristry. The firm is responding to the growing demand for customer-to-customer deliveries associated with online marketplaces. De Lange emphasized that the changing behavior of buyers and sellers is largely driven by social commerce, particularly on platforms known for their engaging formats. Investment in technology and operations has also been a focus for Evri, with a reported expenditure of £57 million during the financial year to enhance service levels. Despite the improvement in customer satisfaction ratings in recent years, the company acknowledged that there is still work to be done, as some customers continue to experience delivery issues. Recently, Evri announced a strategic collaboration with DHL’s UK e-commerce arm, aiming to become one of the largest delivery firms in the country. This partnership allows Evri to enter the UK business letter market, further intensifying competition with established postal services like Royal Mail.
