Jordan Peterson Ordered to Social-media Training

Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson has agreed to participate in social media training as mandated by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. This decision follows the college's assessment that Peterson's social media activity, particularly his comments on transgender issues, could be perceived as degrading. Notably, Peterson criticized a former city councilor's use of they/them pronouns, labeling it as “appalling” and “self-righteous.” Despite the backlash, Peterson asserts that he has not received any complaints from his patients, as he has not been in practice since 2017. The College's ruling has sparked a debate about freedom of speech in Canada. Bennett Jensen, the legal director of the college, emphasized the discrimination faced by 2SLGBTQI communities in accessing healthcare, suggesting that Peterson's comments contribute to a broader issue. Peterson has also faced criticism for his remarks on the Joe Rogan podcast, where he discussed what he termed a "climate hoax," drawing ire from climate scientists like Michael Mann, who described his views as dangerously nihilistic. In response to the training requirement, Peterson expressed his discontent, framing the situation as an attempt to reshape his identity. He characterized the current discourse surrounding gender-affirming care as a significant professional scandal, likening it to historical injustices. Peterson issued a warning to those tasked with his reeducation, suggesting that they may not fully grasp the consequences of their actions.
