In the United States, Dick York gained fame for his role as Darrin Stephens on the popular television series Bewitched, which aired from 1964 to 1969. However, York's life took a tragic turn following a knee injury sustained on the set of the movie They Came to Cordura in 1959. The consequent dependence on painkillers and other drugs hindered his health severely, leading to neurological issues such as epilepsy and an eventual exit from Bewitched, where he was replaced by Dick Sargent. After the show, York struggled with life and finances, resulting in him taking on menial jobs such as cleaning toilets. His health continued to decline, and he ultimately succumbed to complications from emphysema in 1992 at the age of 63.
