On Monday, the U.S. Department of Education announced that seven schools in the Pittsburgh area have been awarded the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition. This accolade is given based on a school's overall academic performance or its progress in closing achievement gaps among different student groups. The schools recognized include Connoquenessing Elementary School, Dorseyville Middle School, Economy Elementary School, Mercer Area High School, Quaker Valley Middle School, Saltsburg Elementary School, and Oakview Elementary School. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a significant honor that highlights the hard work and dedication of both students and educators. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona emphasized that these schools are setting high standards for educational excellence and are exemplary models of effective teaching practices. In total, 356 schools across the nation received this recognition, with 316 being public schools and 40 non-public schools. The formal recognition ceremony is scheduled to take place in November in Washington, D.C., where the achievements of these schools will be celebrated. This recognition not only serves to honor the schools but also aims to inspire other educational institutions to strive for excellence. By showcasing successful strategies and collaboration within these schools, the National Blue Ribbon Schools program encourages a nationwide commitment to improving educational outcomes for all students.
