ChatGPT resumes advanced audio chats after delay due to voice issues
- The advanced audio mode for ChatGPT is now available for Plus and Team subscribers after a delay.
- The feature includes five new voices, improved accents, and enhanced memory capabilities.
- The rollout was paused due to legal issues regarding a voice resembling Scarlett Johansson's character, but OpenAI has since addressed these concerns.
OpenAI has reintroduced an advanced audio mode for ChatGPT users after a months-long delay. This feature, available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers, includes five new voices, enhancing the total to nine, along with improved accents and memory capabilities. The initial announcement in May faced backlash when one voice option, named Sky, was found to closely resemble the voice of actress Scarlett Johansson from the film 'Her.' Following legal concerns from Johansson's team, OpenAI decided to pause the rollout to address these issues. The company later clarified that the resemblance was unintentional and expressed regret for the lack of communication. The updated audio mode aims to provide more personalized interactions, allowing for conversations in 50 languages and the ability to respond to interruptions. However, this feature is not yet accessible in several regions, including the European Union and the UK. CEO Sam Altman expressed hope that users would find the wait worthwhile as the feature becomes available.
