SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — Kuei-Shan Little League from Taoyuan, Taiwan, is gearing up for another attempt at the Little League World Series (LLWS), seeking a more favorable outcome than last year’s third-place finish. Under the guidance of manager Lee Cheng-Ta, the team returns with a significantly altered roster. Cheng-Ta emphasized the collective contribution of the players, stating, “There’s no one ace for the team,” highlighting a more balanced approach compared to previous years. Last year, Kuei-Shan faced disappointment, managing only one hit in a 2-0 semifinal loss to Curacao, which dashed their hopes of securing Taiwan's first LLWS title since 1996. The team has a history of strong performances, having reached South Williamsport in 2009 and 2012, but Cheng-Ta believes this current group is the most intelligent he has coached, allowing them to overcome physical limitations through strategic play. Despite challenges, including a lack of indoor practice facilities in Taoyuan and rainy July weather that hindered their preparation, Kuei-Shan demonstrated resilience by defeating South Korea 3-0 in the regional final after an earlier 13-3 loss. The team’s journey to the U.S. has been arduous, but their determination remains strong. In contrast, the West Region is represented by Central East Maui Little League from Hawaii, making its 16th LLWS appearance. This team, different from the 2019 squad that reached the U.S. final, secured its spot in Pennsylvania with a 3-1 record in the West Region Tournament.
