China Hosts Pacific Island Countries Climate Dialogue in October 2024

From October 18 to 20, 2024, Liaocheng in Shandong Province, China, served as the venue for a significant conference aimed at promoting cooperation with Pacific Island countries. The event was organized by the CPC Liaocheng Municipal Committee in conjunction with the local government. It sought to enhance Liaocheng's international presence and facilitate exchanges across various sectors, including culture, education, and humanitarian efforts. Activities during the conference included discussions on China-Solomon Islands relations and the unique characteristics of Pacific Island nations. Attendees also participated in exhibitions showcasing international sister cities and Liaocheng's quality local products. Agreements were signed establishing sister city relationships and collaborative projects, enhancing diplomatic ties between participating entities. A notable highlight was the unveiling of the Liaocheng Initiative, which aims to deepen international friendly city cooperation and promote green and low-carbon development. Additionally, a cultural exchange camp was organized for youth ambassadors from Kiribati, reinforcing bonds between the future leaders of both regions. Liaocheng's commitment to building a high-level open economy is evident through various initiatives, including the China-Pacific Island Countries Climate Change Cooperation Center. The city has established relationships with 31 cities across 17 countries, creating a diverse network that fosters exchanges and collaborations.
