David de Gea Set for Fiorentina Move After Manchester United Exit
- David de Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, is heading to Italy for a potential move to Fiorentina.
- The 33-year-old is expected to sign a one-year contract with the option for another year.
- This comes after a failed attempt to secure a deal with Genoa.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly traveling to Italy on Friday to finalize a move to Fiorentina. The 33-year-old has been without a club since leaving United last summer, following a failed contract extension. Although he previously engaged in discussions with Genoa, those negotiations fell through. De Gea's last competitive match was over 400 days ago during the 2023 FA Cup final against Manchester City. During his 12-year tenure at Manchester United, De Gea made a remarkable 545 appearances, surpassing Peter Schmeichel’s record for clean sheets and becoming the club's highest appearance maker for a goalkeeper. His accolades include five major trophies, such as the Premier League title in 2013 and the FA Cup in 2016. Additionally, he was named Manchester United’s player of the year for three consecutive seasons from 2013 to 2016. On the international stage, De Gea earned 45 caps for Spain but has not played for the national team since 2020. Fiorentina's current first-choice goalkeeper, Pietro Terracciano, had a solid season last year, making 53 appearances and keeping 13 clean sheets. His contract with the club extends until 2025. Fiorentina, who finished eighth in Serie A last season and reached the Europa Conference League final, will kick off their new campaign against Parma on August 17. De Gea's potential arrival could bolster their squad as they aim for a stronger performance this season.
