In the fall of 1942, German submarines targeted Allied iron-ore carriers near Bell Island, Newfoundland, sinking four vessels and resulting in the deaths of 70 sailors. The wrecks now lie submerged, evolving into vibrant reefs teeming with marine life. Local residents, particularly Newfoundlanders, have maintained the memory of these events through annual Remembrance Day ceremonies. A dive team, led by Rick Stanley, has consistently honored the sacrifices of those lost at sea by placing wreaths on the wrecks. Diver John Olivero participated this year, securing a wreath on the PLM 27, a vessel that serves as a reminder of past conflicts and the vigilance needed for freedom.
