NPR Welcomes Ameera Butt as New Editor II on Engagement Team

In a recent announcement to newsroom staff, Meg Brennan, Vice President of Content Business Strategy and Operations at NPR, confirmed that Ameera Butt will officially join the organization as an Editor II on the Engagement team. Butt has been a familiar face in the newsroom, having worked as a temporary member of the team since November 2023. Brennan expressed gratitude to those who supported Butt's appointment through their recommendations. Butt will maintain a Thursday to Monday work schedule, collaborating closely with colleagues C Mandler and Elle Nett on Engagement initiatives, while also working with Jim Kane and the weekend team. She will continue to be based in Los Angeles and will report to Brennan on an interim basis until Sam Melbourneweaver takes over as Managing Editor for Digital Audience Growth & Engagement in September. Born and raised in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, Butt moved to Texas at the age of 10. Her diverse journalistic background includes coverage of city hall politics, agriculture, and education, as well as foreign reporting, leveraging her proficiency in Arabic. In her personal time, she enjoys birdwatching, knitting, running, and hiking in the Los Angeles area. Brennan expressed excitement about Butt's formal addition to the team, emphasizing the importance of her role in advancing NPR's digital audience goals.
