Story

Folkestone is set to unveil its Rock & Roll Wall of Fame, a tribute to the diverse array of musical acts that have graced the town's stages. Located off The Leas, the wall will honor iconic bands such as Pink Floyd, Whitesnake, and Morcheeba, alongside local talent. The unveiling ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, will attract musicians with ties to the town, including members of Pink Floyd, who performed at Leas Cliff Hall in 1969. Joe Ranger, a musician and founder of the Folk of the Stone organization, emphasized the importance of recognizing Folkestone's rich musical history. He noted that many people are unaware of the town's vibrant talent pool and expressed a desire to elevate Folkestone's status on the music map. The initiative draws inspiration from the famous Cavern Club’s wall of fame in Liverpool, aiming to celebrate the town's contributions to the music scene. The first phase of the project will reveal the names of 50 artists, with an additional 50 to be added in the future. Local rock band The Maroondogs expressed their pride in being included, while original Ska band Intensified shared their gratitude for the recognition of local music history. The Wall of Fame is expected to serve as a focal point for inspiration and acknowledgment of Folkestone's musical legacy.
