In a survey conducted by Which?, Puerto de Mogán has emerged as the top resort destination in the Canary Islands, achieving a remarkable score of 90 percent. This survey, involving over 1,000 travelers, focused on evaluations of various resorts based on criteria such as beach quality, scenery, food and drink offerings, accommodation, and value for money. The results, released in July, indicated a distinct trend among holidaymakers favoring smaller, quieter resorts as opposed to the more traditional crowded destinations popularized in the past, such as those in Tenerife and Lanzarote. Furthermore, respondents appreciated the unique charm of Puerto de Mogán, with its picturesque white-washed buildings and serene environment, yielding high ratings for accommodation and peace. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote was rated second with 77 percent, noted for being family-friendly and having a relaxing atmosphere, while Costa Adeje, Costa Teguise, and Las Palmas shared the third spot with scores around 75 percent. In contrast, Playa del Inglés received the lowest rating, falling victim to overtourism and becoming too densely populated for many visitors. The findings suggest a shift in tourist preferences in the Canary Islands as they increasingly seek authentic and peaceful experiences, leading to protests by locals against the damaging effects of mass tourism. These trends indicate a need for travelers to support local economies by favoring family-run accommodations and eateries over larger corporate entities.
