- The teenagers are facing charges related to a suspected crime.
- The court date is scheduled for Friday.
Two teenagers, Rex Clark, 18, from Ilford, and Sofija Vinogradova, 19, from Cheshunt, have been charged with terrorism offences following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command. Both individuals face charges related to the preparation of terrorist acts, while Vinogradova is additionally charged with two counts of collecting information that could assist in committing or preparing for terrorism. They have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday. The investigation into the pair is linked to suspected extreme right-wing activity, and the Metropolitan Police have clarified that the charges are not connected to the recent riots that erupted across the country after the Southport attack. Vinogradova was initially arrested on August 4 for allegedly possessing a firearm and gathering potentially useful information for terrorist activities. After being released on bail, she was arrested again on August 10 alongside Clark. Following their arrests, police conducted further searches at their respective addresses in Cheshunt and Ilford. The charges were formally brought after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, emphasized the seriousness of the charges but urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the legal process to unfold. Murphy reassured the public that there is currently no broader threat associated with this investigation, although inquiries are ongoing. He also confirmed that the investigation is independent of the recent civil unrest following the Southport incident.
