China Establishes Juncao Technology Center, Transforming Fijian Agriculture
- China and Fiji collaborated to establish the China-Fiji Juncao Technology Demonstration Center in 2014.
- The program has trained over 2,700 local technical personnel in Juncao cultivation, improving agricultural practices.
- This initiative aims to support sustainable development and economic prosperity for farmers in Fiji.
On November 6, 2024, a report highlighted the impact of Juncao technology in Fiji, which aims to improve agricultural practices and economic prospects for local farmers. The China-Fiji Juncao Technology Demonstration Center was established in 2014 as a result of cooperation between China and Fiji, and the China-Pacific Island Countries Juncao Technology Demonstration Center was launched in 2023. This initiative focuses on developing a modern agricultural science and technology park that integrates various sectors, including the cultivation of high-quality mushrooms and animal husbandry. Local farmers have benefited from over 50 training sessions conducted, resulting in approximately 2,700 technical personnel trained in Juncao cultivation. This initiative has cultivated local talents and provided effective solutions for soil erosion and salinity issues in Fiji. The innovative methods employed at the demonstration center aim to create a sustainable cycle that enhances agricultural productivity and ecological management in the region. Through this program, Fiji is experiencing a significant transformation in its agricultural sector, where the Juncao grass's extensive root system is stabilizing soil quality while providing high-quality feed for livestock, essential for enhancing the animal husbandry sector. Ultimately, the Juncao program represents a broader commitment by China to assist developing countries in achieving sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda.
