Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Chicago Hit-and-Run

HEBRON, Ill. (CBS) — A tragic accident in McHenry County claimed the lives of two men when a utility-terrain vehicle (UTV) crashed into a utility pole late Saturday night. First responders were dispatched to the scene on Thayer Road at approximately 10:50 p.m. The UTV, driven by a 40-year-old man from Harvard, Illinois, was reportedly traveling at a high speed when it veered off the road, struck a utility pole, and rolled multiple times. The impact resulted in the driver being ejected from the vehicle. The crash caused the UTV to come to rest in a ditch, where it subsequently caught fire. The 40-year-old driver and a 36-year-old passenger, also from Harvard, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant, a 35-year-old man from San Carlos, California, sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role in the incident, which is currently under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and the county Coroner's Office. The boy suffered minor injuries, including a cut to his lip, and was transported to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was reported to be in good condition. Chicago police are investigating the hit-and-run, with no arrests made as of Sunday. CHICAGO (CBS) — A 67-year-old man died after being struck by a pickup truck in Rogers Park late Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. while the victim was crossing West Howard Street. Witnesses reported that the driver of the black pickup truck did not stop after the collision. A friend of the victim, who recognized him at the scene, expressed his grief, noting their shared history in the neighborhood. The victim suffered severe injuries and was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Chicago police are investigating the incident and plan to issue citations.
