Justin Ball officially takes the reins as Dallas Fire-Rescue chief

In April 2025, the city of Dallas, United States, announced the appointment of Justin Ball as the new chief of the Dallas Fire-Rescue department. City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert made the announcement on Thursday, following Ball’s role as the interim fire chief since June 2024. His extensive background with Dallas Fire-Rescue began in 1997 as a firefighter paramedic, and through the years, he has advanced through various ranks within the department, gaining recognition for his leadership qualities and innovative ideas. In another significant development, on the same day, the Dallas Police Department appointed Daniel C. Comeaux as its new chief. Comeaux has an impressive law enforcement background and brings with him 33 years of experience. His leadership in combating drug trafficking and violent crime, especially through his role at the DEA in Houston, further reflects Dallas's intent to tackle public safety from multiple critical angles. Mayor Eric Johnson also voiced his support for Comeaux, predicting a continued decline in crime rates alongside a deeper trust between the police and community members.
