Machete attack on Bronx subway straphanger leads to arrest

Runadieo Jordan, a 54-year-old man, was arrested for a machete attack on a 31-year-old straphanger aboard a Bronx subway train on August 31. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. during an argument between the two men. As the train approached the Allerton Avenue station, Jordan brandished a machete and struck the victim multiple times, causing injuries to his arm, hands, and head. The victim was subsequently hospitalized at Jacobi Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Following the attack, Jordan fled the scene and evaded capture until his arrest on Tuesday. He faces multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and harassment. This incident marks a troubling pattern in Jordan's behavior, as he has a prior criminal history involving a stabbing on a subway train in June 2022. In that earlier case, Jordan was accused of attacking another man after an argument over loud music, during which he allegedly used a knife and made homophobic slurs. The victim in that incident suffered severe injuries, requiring two surgeries to repair damage to his wrist. Jordan was arrested shortly after that attack on drug-related charges, although the outcome of that case remains unclear. The recent machete attack has raised concerns about safety on public transportation in New York City, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and measures to prevent such violent incidents in the future.
