On November 7, 2024, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, partnered with Intel Corporation to implement a new academic research program in Europe focused on sustainable semiconductor manufacturing solutions. The initiative, announced in 2023, aims to enhance the manufacturing processes and technologies in the semiconductor industry through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. With a collaborative approach involving eleven institutions across six countries, the program seeks to drive advancements in materials and efficiency. As members of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium, both companies are also committed to ambitious sustainability goals, including the transition to renewable energy for 80% of their electricity needs by 2030.
