Bolton is set to launch film location walking tours, capitalizing on its growing reputation as the "Hollywood of the North." In 2023, the town attracted major productions from Netflix, BBC, and ITV, with crews spending a total of 88 days filming in the area. The town's distinctive architecture, particularly the cobbled streets and the grand Le Mans Crescent, has made it a popular backdrop for numerous television dramas. Among the notable productions filmed in Bolton are acclaimed series such as "Happy Valley," "The Reckoning," and "Gentleman in Moscow." The town also hosted scenes for the Netflix mystery drama "Fool Me Once," featuring stars Michelle Keegan and Joanna Lumley. The filming of "Happy Valley," which included a dramatic escape scene, has particularly highlighted Bolton's cinematic appeal. During a recent council meeting, updates were provided on Bolton's events as it holds the title of Greater Manchester Town of Culture. This designation follows successful cultural initiatives in other towns such as Bury and Stockport. Councillor Mohammed Ayub announced that the walking tours are in development and are expected to launch in late summer, inviting residents and visitors to explore the town's film history. With the tours, fans will have the opportunity to visit iconic filming locations, including the dock where a pivotal scene from "Happy Valley" was shot. Those interested are encouraged to book early to secure their spots and experience Bolton's cinematic legacy firsthand.
