On September 16, 2024, the Linux Foundation launched the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LF Decentralized Trust) in San Francisco and Vienna, aiming to create a neutral environment for the collaborative development of decentralized technologies. This initiative is supported by over 100 founding members, including organizations from the Hyperledger Foundation and Trust Over IP Foundation, as well as 13 additional members committed to advancing decentralized technology ecosystems. LF Decentralized Trust serves as an umbrella organization that encompasses a variety of technologies, including blockchain, identity, interoperability, and cryptographic systems. The foundation builds on more than eight years of work within the Linux Foundation, which has been instrumental in leading global open-source projects related to blockchain and digital identity. The launch integrates the TrustOverIP (ToIP) community, bringing its working groups, specifications, and governance models into the new organization. This move is seen as a critical step towards establishing decentralized standards and frameworks that will enhance trust in digital ecosystems. Founding members, such as Hashgraph, Ownera, Print2Block, and Rayls Foundation, expressed their enthusiasm for joining LF Decentralized Trust, highlighting the importance of collaboration in fostering innovation and interoperability in the digital asset space. The establishment of this foundation is expected to significantly impact the future of decentralized technologies and their adoption across various industries.
