Story

Representative Chip Roy, chairman of the subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, has called on FBI Director Christopher Wray to clarify discrepancies between his congressional testimony and data from the Justice Department regarding investigations into pro-abortion violence. During a July 24 hearing, Wray stated that the FBI had increased its focus on violence against pro-life facilities since the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision. However, Roy's recent letter highlights that only two out of 24 cases charged under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act since January 2021 involved attacks on pregnancy resource centers. Roy's concerns are underscored by the fact that there have been at least 90 reported attacks on pro-life organizations since the leak of the Supreme Court's draft opinion in May 2022. He pointed out that the Biden administration's enforcement of the FACE Act appears to disproportionately target pro-life activists, with only 8 percent of cases filed against those involved in attacks on pregnancy resource centers. This raises questions about the accuracy of Wray's assertion regarding the FBI's focus on pro-abortion violence. Critics of the Biden administration, including Roy and Senator Mike Lee, argue that the FACE Act is being weaponized against pro-lifers while neglecting to address the violence perpetrated against pro-life facilities. They have called for the repeal of the FACE Act, claiming it unjustly penalizes nonviolent pro-life activists while ignoring more severe acts of violence associated with leftist causes. The FBI has not yet responded to requests for comment on this matter.
