Reserve cop's tragic murder-suicide in Indianapolis

Indianapolis police are investigating a tragic incident involving a retired reserve police officer, Thomas Joseph Nolan, who shot his wife, Ashley L. Nolan, and their two teenage daughters before taking his own life. The incident occurred at their home on Watersonway Circle on Monday night, with authorities labeling it a domestic-related murder-suicide. Ashley Nolan, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the couple's daughters were found injured and transported to a local hospital, where one is in stable condition and the other remains in critical condition. Police responded to a domestic disturbance call shortly before 9 PM, during which officers reported hearing gunshots from the residence. Upon entering the home, they discovered the two injured teenagers and later found both parents deceased in the backyard, alongside a firearm believed to be involved in the shooting. The Marion County Coroner’s Office has ruled Thomas Nolan's death as an apparent suicide and Ashley Nolan's death as a homicide. Thomas Nolan, 43, had a long career in law enforcement, beginning as a reserve deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 2003 and retiring in May after 21 years of service. He also served as a resource officer for the Perry Schools Police Department until September 2017. Family members described Ashley as a loving mother and devoted individual, while the local school district expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the affected students and families.
