Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have submitted a detailed file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) regarding a disturbance at Manchester Airport last month, which resulted in injuries to three police officers. The incident, which occurred on July 23, involved 19-year-old Fahir Amaaz and his brother Muhammad Amaad, both from Rochdale. Video footage circulating on social media depicted an officer kicking and seemingly stamping on Amaaz's head while he was being restrained. Additional footage released later showed the moments leading up to the incident, including two female officers being knocked to the ground before Amaaz was subdued with a Taser. GMP confirmed that their major incident team, led by an experienced senior officer, has been conducting a thorough investigation into the series of alleged criminal offenses associated with the disturbance. Four men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and assault and are currently on bail. Meanwhile, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is conducting a separate investigation into the actions of the officers involved. One officer is under criminal investigation for assault related to the arrests of the Amaaz brothers, while a second officer has also been advised of a criminal investigation concerning an incident involving two other men shortly after. The initial footage of the incident sparked protests in both Rochdale and Manchester city center, highlighting public concern over police conduct during the event.
