Local automakers unveil critical EVs at Munich’s IAA Auto Show

In September 2025, Munich will host the IAA Mobility show, a significant event for the automotive industry, particularly for electric vehicles (EVs). Leading German automakers BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen are set to showcase their latest electric offerings, despite perceptions that auto shows are becoming outdated. Among the highlights is BMW's production version of the Neue Klasse iX3 electric SUV, which marks an important milestone as the brand emphasizes sustainability through its use of recycled materials. Mercedes-Benz will debut the next generation of its GLC SUV, which has recently become the best selling model within the brand. This new iteration will include an electric version and is built on an upgraded 800-Volt electric architecture utilizing the recently developed MB.EA platform, which will also be utilized for the all-electric C-Class sedan. This move signals a competitive push in the mid-sized crossover SUV segment, where the iX3 will also be vying for market share. Volkswagen plans to present the near-production version of its ID2, showcasing a design that aims to echo the classic Golf models. Additionally, they will introduce the next generation of the T-Roc SUV, which has surpassed the traditional Golf in sales within its home market. Competing against these major players, Renault will show the sixth generation of its Clio hatchback, which has been leading the sales charts against the Golf throughout the year. While Audi will not have a new production car to show, they aim to create buzz with a two-seat concept car inspired by their iconic TT. Other participants include Opel, which will reveal a high-powered concept car as part of Stellantis, and Hyundai, which will showcase the Ioniq 2 small SUV. The event promises to highlight the increasing importance of electric vehicles in the automotive market, with significant launches coming from both established automakers and newer entrants from China, marking a pivotal moment for EV adaptation in Europe.
