Story

In the United States, NBCUniversal is set to raise the subscription rates for their streaming service Peacock. Starting from July 23, 2025, the monthly fee for Peacock Premium, which includes advertisements, will be raised to $10.99, an increase of $3 from the previous rate. The annual subscription rate for Peacock Premium will be adjusted to $109.99, marking a $30 increase. Additionally, the price for the ad-free Premium Plus tier will also rise to $16.99 a month and $169.99 a year. In an effort to create broader appeal, Peacock is introducing a new tier named 'Select', which will offer current seasons of NBC and Bravo shows along with some library programming at a lower price of $7.99 a month or $79.99 per year. This price adjustment occurs against a backdrop where major streaming platforms are increasingly competing against traditional broadcasting methods for viewership. Numerous competitors, including Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu, have also raised their prices in the past year. Notably, this price increase precedes the return of live NBA games to NBC, a partnership that will begin later in 2025. The platform has gained traction with an increase in subscribers, reaching 41 million by the end of the first quarter of 2025. According to Nielsen data, streaming has overtaken cable as the primary way that consumers engage with television content, reflecting shifting viewing habits.
