- The lawyer's statement aims to clarify and defend Timberlake's actions during the traffic stop.
Justin Timberlake's legal team is contesting a drunken driving charge against the pop star, asserting that he was not intoxicated during a traffic stop last month in the Hamptons. Timberlake's attorney, Edward Burke, highlighted significant errors in the police documentation and expressed confidence that the charge would be dismissed. The former NSYNC member, currently on tour in Europe, waived his appearance at a recent court hearing, allowing him to participate virtually. Burke emphasized Timberlake's sobriety, stating, “He was not intoxicated,” and criticized the police for what he described as “very significant errors” in the case. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office acknowledged a “ministerial error” in the paperwork but maintained that the facts of the case remain unchanged. Spokesperson Emily O'Neil confirmed that an amended charging document was filed on July 2. While Burke hinted at additional issues with the arrest documents, he refrained from providing specifics. O'Neil responded by stating that the prosecution is prepared to address the facts of the case in court rather than through media discussions. The charges stem from an incident on June 18, when Timberlake was stopped for allegedly running a stop sign and swerving in Sag Harbor, a location steeped in literary history. Timberlake was reportedly driving a 2025 BMW at the time of the stop, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. The outcome of the legal proceedings remains to be seen as both sides prepare for further litigation.
