Samaritan's Purse deploys water filtration systems in Swannanoa, Oct 2024

In October 2024, Samaritan's Purse, a North Carolina-based international Christian relief organization, initiated relief efforts in western North Carolina following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The organization deployed three community water filtration systems to Swannanoa and other affected areas, each capable of providing up to 50,000 liters of clean water daily, sufficient for 10,000 people. This initiative aims to address the immediate water crisis as Buncombe County works to restore its damaged water pipeline network. In addition to the water systems, Samaritan's Purse has conducted 19 helicopter operations to deliver essential supplies, including infant hygiene kits, food, and medical supplies, to isolated communities. Over 2,700 volunteers have participated in recovery efforts, assisting more than 140 families by clearing debris and mud from homes and removing fallen trees. The organization is also operating a 20-bed Emergency Field Hospital in Avery County to provide critical medical care to those affected by the storm. Franklin Graham, the president of Samaritan's Purse, emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating that the organization is committed to helping those in need, both physically and spiritually. The deployment of these resources reflects a broader commitment to disaster relief, as the organization has also sent Disaster Relief Units to other states impacted by recent disasters.
