Former Trump Advisor Olivia Troye Speaks Out Against Trump at DNC

Olivia Troye, a lifelong Republican and former advisor to ex-Vice President Mike Pence, has publicly denounced Donald Trump, stating her reasons for speaking at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). Troye, who once supported Trump, claims that his treatment of his supporters has led her to oppose him. In an interview with CNN, she recounted a moment in 2020 when Trump allegedly expressed disdain for his supporters, saying, “I don’t want to shake hands with those dirty people, those disgusting people.” Troye emphasized that Trump shows a “complete disregard” for his supporters, lamenting their loyalty to someone who does not care for them. Her criticisms are part of a broader narrative she has shared since leaving her role as Pence’s Homeland Security and Counterterrorism advisor in August 2020. She has consistently highlighted Trump’s disparaging remarks about his supporters and his apparent enjoyment of the January 6 events. Her comments align with those of Stephanie Grisham, a former White House Press Secretary, who also spoke at the DNC. Grisham accused Trump of mocking his supporters, referring to them as “basement dwellers.” Troye supported Grisham’s claims, recalling an instance where Trump was upset that cameras were not focused on him during a visit to El Paso shooting victims. Troye concluded her remarks by expressing her belief that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz represent a more compassionate and effective leadership path for the country.
