Beam Global Unveils Streetlight EV Chargers

Beam Global, based in San Diego, has developed an innovative solution to address the growing need for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The company has designed a streetlight that doubles as an EV charger, utilizing a combination of grid power and renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. This approach allows for meaningful charging capabilities, particularly for those without access to home chargers or for drivers needing a quick charge while parked. The BeamSpot units will feature level two chargers with one or two ports, making them suitable for public use. Beam Global's CEO, Desmond Wheatley, emphasized the potential for municipalities to adopt this green solution without incurring significant capital expenses, as they can pay a monthly service fee instead. This model aims to simplify the process for cities looking to expand their EV charging capacity. The first demonstration units are set to be installed in San Diego and Serbia, targeting both U.S. and European markets. Wheatley noted that there has already been considerable interest from potential customers, indicating a positive reception for the product. The company anticipates generating revenue from sales by the first quarter of 2025. By integrating EV charging into existing streetlight infrastructure, Beam Global aims to enhance the accessibility of charging stations, thereby supporting the transition to electric vehicles and contributing to a more sustainable urban environment.
