A woman who was severely injured in a hit-and-run incident involving her ex-boyfriend has disclosed that she had sought a restraining order against him just months prior to the attack. Brady Dermott Collins, 27, was sentenced to two years in prison by the Geraldton District Court for his actions. The victim, Ms. Morrison, described her relationship with Collins as tumultuous, stating that she sought the restraining order due to ongoing harassment after their breakup. The incident occurred after Ms. Morrison and Collins met at a local pub, where tensions escalated into a heated argument. As she attempted to retrieve her belongings, Collins allegedly accelerated his vehicle while she was still holding onto it, resulting in her being thrown to the ground. In a harrowing account, Ms. Morrison recounted the moment she was struck, recalling how she saw Collins taunting her from across the street before he fled the scene. Local residents quickly came to her aid, and she was subsequently transported to the Royal Perth Hospital for treatment. Collins pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop and assist. Reflecting on the incident, Ms. Morrison expressed a sense of justice, noting that had the situation not escalated, Collins might still be a part of her life. Currently recovering from surgery, Ms. Morrison faces significant challenges in her daily life, relying heavily on family support. She has also sustained a serious injury to her left leg, which has rendered her unable to drive a manual vehicle.
