Story

Brentford Football Club has reached an agreement to sign Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho in a deal that could total £27.5 million (€32 million) with performance-related add-ons. The 21-year-old Portuguese playmaker is set to undergo a medical examination before finalizing his transfer to the Gtech Community Stadium. Carvalho, who is contracted with Liverpool until June 2027, will leave the club under a deal that includes a 17.5 percent sell-on clause for the Merseyside team. Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022 for £5 million, and Fulham will also benefit from the transfer, receiving 20 percent of the profit from the deal. Earlier this week, Liverpool turned down a £15 million offer from Southampton, indicating their valuation of the player. Carvalho showcased his talent during Liverpool's pre-season tour in America, scoring against both Arsenal and Manchester United, but with the return of key players like Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, his playing time was expected to diminish. Having spent the latter half of last season on loan at Hull City, where he netted nine goals in 20 appearances, Carvalho's path to regular first-team football at Liverpool appeared challenging. If the transfer is completed, he will be Brentford's second signing of the summer, following the anticipated arrival of Sweden international Jens Cajuste on loan from Napoli. Brentford is set to kick off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on August 17.
