- Previously allied with Congress in INDIA bloc, AAP now stands alone in Haryana elections.
- The move comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana scheduled for October.
Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially announced its intention to contest all 90 assembly seats in Haryana independently for the upcoming elections in October. This declaration was made during a press conference attended by senior AAP leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who emphasized the party's growing influence and recent electoral successes. Previously, AAP had participated in the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana as part of an alliance with Congress but is now opting for a solo campaign. During the press briefing, Mann highlighted AAP's governance in Punjab and its representation in other states, asserting that the party has gained national recognition after securing 14% of the votes in Gujarat. He criticized the existing political landscape in Haryana, claiming that the electorate is disillusioned with traditional parties that have failed to deliver, leading to a demand for change. Mann pointed to AAP's recent victories in Punjab and the Jalandhar by-election as indicators of the party's momentum. Sanjay Singh, AAP's national spokesperson, condemned the current Haryana government led by Chief Minister Nayab Saini, alleging that the state has become a hub for extortion and has neglected the needs of farmers. He also raised concerns about unemployment in Haryana, contrasting it with the job creation efforts in Punjab under the Mann administration. Sandeep Pathak, AAP's national general secretary, noted that the party has engaged with the public through "Parivartan Jansamvad Sabha" in approximately 6,500 villages, indicating a strong desire for change among the people of Haryana.
