Experience the Aurora Light Display at Mellon Square this Holiday Season

In the United States, a new immersive light display named 'Aurora' is set to debut in Downtown Pittsburgh's Mellon Square this holiday season. The installation, designed by local artist Joshua Challen Ice, will feature a 25-foot structure adorned with hundreds of diamond-shaped panels that respond to wind and touch by changing colors. This innovative display aims to enhance the festive atmosphere during the holiday season, opening on Light-Up Night, which falls on Saturday, November 23. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, which announced the project, emphasizes that this installation is not merely about visual appeal but also about fostering community spirit and joy. Alongside the light display, visitors can enjoy various activities, including heated igloos, a hot cocoa booth, live music, and performances by holiday choirs. Catherine Qureshi, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, highlighted the importance of creating memorable experiences for both residents and visitors. The initiative aims to transform Mellon Square into a vibrant downtown oasis, particularly during the winter months when the city can feel less inviting. The display will remain open through mid-January, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the magic of the holiday season in a unique and interactive way.
