CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Scott Satterfield has officially named Indiana transfer Brendan Sorsby as the starting quarterback for the upcoming season opener against Towson on August 31. Sorsby, a third-year player, secured the position after outperforming competitors Brady Lichtenberg and highly-touted freshman Samaj Jones, who is a four-star recruit. Satterfield praised Sorsby for his dedication to mastering the team's offensive strategies and highlighted his ability to make significant plays during practice. "He has earned the respect of his teammates, which is huge," Satterfield noted, emphasizing the importance of leadership qualities in a starting quarterback. He described Sorsby as possessing a "quiet confidence" coupled with humility, traits that are essential for the role. Brendan Sorsby previously played two seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he started seven games and accumulated impressive statistics, throwing for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023. His experience and performance at Indiana have contributed to his readiness for the challenges ahead with Cincinnati. The Bearcats are looking to improve upon a disappointing 3-9 record from the previous season, which marked Satterfield's first year as head coach. With Sorsby at the helm, Cincinnati hopes to turn the tide and build a more competitive team in the upcoming season.
