On November 4, 2024, Singapore Airlines announced a significant upgrade to its long-haul and ultra-long-haul Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The airline will be investing more than $834 million to modernize the interiors, with an aim to redefine the premium travel experience. The retrofit is expected to be completed by the end of 2030, in response to extensive engagement with customers and stakeholders over the past six years. The upgrade will involve bringing in updated business class seats and refreshed cabins for premium economy and economy class on 41 A350-900 aircraft. Additionally, the seven A350-900ULR planes will receive first-class cabins. The new configurations will offer a total of 42 business class, 24 premium economy, and 192 economy seats per each long-haul aircraft, while the ultra-long-haul aircraft will feature four first-class, 70 business, and 58 premium economy seats. Initial rollouts of the redesigned cabins are planned to begin with the first retrofitted long-haul aircraft in the second quarter of 2026, followed by the ultra-long-haul variant in early 2027. CEO Goh Choon Phong emphasized that the enhancements are part of the airline's commitment to enhancing passenger experience through innovative design. Earlier in 2024, Singapore Airlines was recognized as the second-best airline in the world by Skytrax, which highlights the importance of keeping up with customer demands and expectations in a competitive market.
