Previously, Ivanova had served as a European Commissioner overseeing areas such as innovation, research, culture, education, and youth. She held this position until recently, signaling a transition in her professional role. Her extensive experience also includes a significant tenure at the ECA from 2013 to 2023, where she took on leadership roles such as chairing the ECA Audit Quality Control Committee. Ivanova was accountable for audit tasks in regional, social, and cohesion policy as Dean of Chamber II. This new appointment is set to span from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2030. The decision by the Council follows a proposal from member states and subsequent consultations with the European Parliament, indicating the importance of institutional cooperation in appointing members of critical EU bodies.
