Raiders Quarterback Uncertainty After Loss
- Las Vegas Raiders lost 27-12 to the Cowboys.
- Uncertainty surrounds the starting quarterback position.
- Both Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew were outplayed by Trey Lance.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The battle for the starting quarterback position for the Las Vegas Raiders remains uncertain following a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, where both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew struggled to make a significant impact. The Cowboys secured a 27-12 victory, largely thanks to Trey Lance, a third-string quarterback who showcased his skills with a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown. Lance, the former No. 3 overall draft pick, completed 15 of 23 passes for 151 yards, stepping up in the absence of starter Dak Prescott, who watched from the sidelines. Cooper Rush took the helm for the first quarter but managed only 6 yards on 1 of 3 passing attempts. The highlight of the first half came from kicker Brandon Aubrey, who nailed a 66-yard field goal, a kick that would have tied the NFL record if it had been in a regular-season game. For the Raiders, O’Connell appeared poised to claim the starting role, completing 14 of 20 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. However, a critical interception returned for a touchdown by Cowboys cornerback Kemon Hall on the first play of the fourth quarter marred his performance. Minshew, who played into the second quarter, completed 10 of 21 passes for 95 yards but failed to lead the team to a touchdown during his drives. As the preseason continues, the Raiders will host the San Francisco 49ers on Friday night, while the Cowboys prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers next Saturday.
