Story

Navi Mumbai's Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL) has announced an extension for the submission of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the development and maintenance of the Vadhavan Coast. Originally set for August 20, the new deadline is now August 23, 2024. The project, which involves dredging, reclamation, and the construction of an offshore protection bund, is being implemented through a public-private partnership model. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to be the chief guest at the ground-breaking ceremony on August 30 at CIDCO ground in Palghar. VPPL has established various committees to ensure the project proceeds smoothly and without causing inconvenience to the local community. Security measures are also being put in place for the event, as confirmed by VPPL spokesperson Bodke. The Vadhvan Port is designed to have a navigational channel depth of 20 meters, enhancing connectivity between India, the Middle East, and Europe. The port will be developed on a landlord model, featuring essential infrastructure such as breakwaters, rail and road connectivity, and utilities. Cargo and container terminals will be operated by concessionaires in accordance with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways' PPP policy. With a total project cost of Rs 76,220 Crore, the Vadhvan Port will include nine container terminals, multipurpose berths, and a Coast Guard berth, among other facilities. The project entails the reclamation of 1,448 hectares and the construction of 10.14 kilometers of breakwater, aiming to significantly reduce logistics costs and enhance economic integration.
