On Thursday night, the skies over Cullercoats Bay in North Tyneside were illuminated by the stunning display of the Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis. This natural phenomenon showcased vibrant hues of green and pink, creating a breathtaking spectacle for onlookers. The conditions for viewing were reported to be nearly perfect, with minimal cloud cover, allowing for an unobstructed view of the lights. The event was not limited to Cullercoats Bay; similar displays were observed across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, indicating a widespread occurrence of this celestial event. The aurora borealis is caused by charged particles from the sun colliding with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, particularly near the magnetic poles.
