- The charity aims to restore the Hillview Estate and develop educational programs focused on traditional heritage crafts.
- This initiative continues the King's dedication to sustainability while encountering varying public opinions on the monarchy.
During a royal tour of Australia, King Charles III announced the launch of The King's Foundation Australia at Admiralty House in Sydney. This new charity serves as an extension of the UK's King's Foundation, which was originally established in 1990. The King's Foundation Australia will manage the Hillview Estate, a State heritage-listed property in New South Wales, and its first project aims to restore the estate into a cultural hub focused on education and traditional crafts. Inspired by the successful model of Dumfries House, which the King acquired and restored in 2007, the initiative intends to promote practical training programs in heritage crafts. Dominion Richards, the Chair of The King's Foundation Australia, expressed enthusiasm for the charity's mission, emphasizing the importance of a sustainable future and the balance between humanity and nature. The announcement coincided with King Charles' first visit to Australia since his Coronation in May 2023, part of a six-day tour that also included a trip to Canberra and engagement with local communities. Although there were many royal supporters, some Republicans voiced their opposition to the monarchy, highlighting a division in public sentiment. Overall, this initiative reflects the King’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and education, showcasing his hope for a positive impact on Australian communities through cultural heritage and practical learning opportunities.
