Story

Slovenia has recently been awarded significant funding from the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which aims to support infrastructure projects across the European Union. This funding allocation is part of a broader initiative in which a total of 2.76 billion euros were designated for 94 infrastructure projects that are vital for enhancing connectivity throughout Europe. The Slovenian projects selected for funding, including the notable construction of a second railway track between Divača and the port of Koper, represent a strategic focus on improving transport infrastructure within the country. The total grant awarded to Slovenia amounts to just over 167 million euros, which provides essential financial support for the development of these projects. Among these, the rail project between Divača and Koper is the largest and most crucial. The allocated 156.1 million euros specifically for this project is intended to cover expenses related to the equipping of the track, electrical devices, and the implementation of the European railway traffic management system. This support is vital not only for modernizing Slovenia’s transport infrastructure but also for its integration into the larger European transport network. The Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure expressed that these grants represent a significant opportunity to enhance the overall quality and technology of transport services, thereby improving connectivity with the rest of Europe. The successful application is expected to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with the nearly one billion euro project, ensuring that Slovenia can deliver a modern, efficient, and technologically advanced railway system.
