The Fighting Camels surged in the second quarter, amassing 188 yards of total offense and scoring 17 points to take a 17-10 lead at halftime. Mascoe's performance included a 1-yard touchdown run and a 45-yard touchdown pass to Wilkins. In the third quarter, Mascoe connected with Wilkins again for a short touchdown pass, extending Campbell's lead to 24-10. However, the game remained competitive as Western Carolina's Christian Lowery kicked his third field goal, narrowing the gap to 24-16 with just over three minutes left in the game. Campbell struggled to maintain possession, going three-and-out on consecutive drives. Western Carolina attempted a late-game comeback, starting their final drive at their own 31-yard line with about 30 seconds remaining.
