Chad Mascoe Jr. shines with three touchdowns in Campbell’s win over Western Carolina

On Saturday, Chad Mascoe Jr. led Campbell to a 24-16 victory over Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Mascoe was instrumental in the win, accounting for three touchdowns, including two touchdown passes to VJ Wilkins. The Fighting Camels surged in the second quarter, amassing 188 yards of total offense and scoring 17 points to take a 17-10 lead at halftime. Mascoe's performance included a 1-yard touchdown run and a 45-yard touchdown pass to Wilkins. In the third quarter, Mascoe connected with Wilkins again for a short touchdown pass, extending Campbell's lead to 24-10. However, the game remained competitive as Western Carolina's Christian Lowery kicked his third field goal, narrowing the gap to 24-16 with just over three minutes left in the game. Campbell struggled to maintain possession, going three-and-out on consecutive drives. Western Carolina attempted a late-game comeback, starting their final drive at their own 31-yard line with about 30 seconds remaining. Quarterback Cole Gonzales managed to throw for one first down and ran for two more, but time expired with the Catamounts at the 27-yard line, sealing their defeat. Mascoe finished the game with impressive stats, completing 18 of 29 passes for 306 yards, despite being intercepted twice. In contrast, Gonzales struggled, completing 18 of 35 passes for 182 yards and throwing four interceptions. Campbell's total offense outgained Western Carolina significantly, with 444 yards compared to 287 yards for the Catamounts.
