On July 8, 1944, Lieutenant George F. Wilson Jr was flying a B-17G 'Flying Fortress' bomber during World War II when his aircraft was struck by antiaircraft fire, resulting in a crash in France. For over 80 years, his family from Bountiful, Utah, was left with unanswered questions regarding his fate until the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency informed them in November 2024 that he had been found. In 1951, he was declared non-recoverable, but new information came to light in 2018 when a family member reported potential crash site details to the DPAA. This led investigators to a region in France where witnesses remembered the crash, initiating further investigations.
