- This partnership aims to significantly increase the accessibility of Mavericks games, marking a historic moment for local fans.
On September 6, 2024, the Dallas Mavericks announced a multi-year broadcast agreement with TEGNA, aimed at enhancing local viewership for the team. This partnership will allow approximately 10 million Texas residents to watch all Mavericks games that are not exclusively televised nationally, marking a significant increase in accessibility for fans. The deal includes WFAA as the official broadcast partner, which will also handle local and regional advertising for the games. Beginning October 26, the Mavericks' season opener against the Phoenix Suns will be broadcasted by TEGNA station KMPX, covering 70 or more games in the first season. WFAA will simulcast at least 15 of these games, ensuring that fans have ample opportunities to follow their team. This agreement builds on a successful trial where 10 games were broadcasted last season, which received positive feedback from the audience. Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont expressed enthusiasm about the deal, emphasizing the goal of providing fans with more opportunities to watch the team. TEGNA's Senior Vice President, Brad Ramsey, highlighted the strong reaction from fans during the previous broadcasts and the commitment to expanding viewership across Texas. The partnership is expected to elevate the Mavericks' presence in local markets and enhance the overall fan experience. In addition to the games aired on TEGNA stations, at least 30 Mavericks games will be televised nationally during the 2024-25 season. This strategic move is part of the Mavericks' efforts to engage more fans and build on the momentum from their recent success in the NBA Finals.
