Story

Cranberry Township is set to celebrate the opening of a new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple, a significant milestone for the local community. Hoke, president of the Pittsburgh North Stake, emphasized the importance of the temple as a sacred space for worship, stating, "For us, it's everything because a temple is a place where we can go and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." With 29,000 members in the Pittsburgh area, the temple will serve as a vital spiritual hub, reducing the travel distance for congregants who previously had to journey to temples in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Cleveland. The temple, constructed from white granite and soaring 125 feet high, has been a long-awaited project for local church members. The announcement of its construction was made in 2020, with building commencing the following year. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for September 15, marking a momentous occasion for the community. Hoke noted that the temple's location was revealed during a major church conference, highlighting the significance of the event. Before the official dedication, the temple will open its doors for public tours, allowing community members to experience the space. Tours will be available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Hoke described the temple as a place of peace, joy, and happiness, reinforcing its role as "the house of the Lord" for the congregation. The opening of the temple is anticipated to foster a deeper sense of community and spiritual connection among local church members.
