- Consumers are advised to stop using the affected products and return them for a refund.
In October 2024, a significant health concern arose in the United States regarding Dynacare baby powder, which has been found potentially contaminated with asbestos. Dynarex Corp., based in Montvale, New Jersey, announced the expansion of a recall first initiated in September. This recent action includes an additional 1,020 cases shipped to 35 states and sold via online platforms like Amazon, raising alarms about consumer safety. Asbestos is a well-known carcinogen that can pose serious health risks when inhaled. The contamination is thought to be linked to talc, a common ingredient in many cosmetic products, including baby powder. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's routine testing flagged the contaminated products, leading to this urgent recall. Affected products include 14-ounce and 4-ounce bottles of Dynacare baby powder, manufactured between late October 2023 and early February 2024. The expiration dates for these products extend into 2026 and 2027. Dynarex has ceased distribution of these items and is currently investigating the root cause of the contamination. Consumers who purchased these potentially harmful products are advised to discontinue use immediately and return the items for a refund. This incident highlights the importance of vigilant safety testing in consumer products, especially those intended for use on infants.
