Indore Airport launches face recognition system for seamless travel

On Friday, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, launched the DigiYatra facility, a facial recognition system aimed at streamlining the travel experience for passengers. This innovative system allows travelers to bypass traditional check-in processes, eliminating the need to present physical tickets, identity cards, or boarding passes at various checkpoints, including entry, security, and boarding. The initiative was inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who participated virtually from Visakhapatnam, alongside local officials and airport representatives. Currently, four DigiYatra units have been installed at the airport, strategically placed at the departure gate, pre-security hold area, and boarding point. The introduction of this technology is expected to significantly reduce waiting times for passengers, enhancing overall convenience and efficiency at the airport. MP Shankar Lalwani emphasized the importance of this facility in saving valuable time for travelers. To utilize the DigiYatra service, passengers must register through a mobile app available on both Play Store and iOS. The registration process requires basic personal information, including name, email ID, mobile number, and an identity card, which can be uploaded via DigiLocker. After completing identity profiling and submitting a selfie, a DigiYatra ID is generated, which must be referenced when booking tickets. The implementation of the DigiYatra system at Indore Airport marks a significant step towards modernizing air travel in India, aligning with global trends in digitalization and enhancing passenger experience. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve airport operations and reduce congestion, ultimately benefiting both travelers and airport authorities.
