A San Mateo man, Andrew Coleman, 32, faced murder charges in court on Tuesday for the alleged killing of his pregnant girlfriend, Kirsten Castle, and their unborn child. The arraignment took place in Redwood City, where Coleman was charged with two counts of murder with special circumstances. Castle, 37, was eight months pregnant at the time of her death and had been living with Coleman in San Mateo. Prosecutors allege that Coleman strangled Castle in their home on the evening of August 4. The tragic discovery of Castle's body was made by one of her children from a previous marriage. Following the incident, Coleman reportedly fled the scene, stealing Castle's car and driving to Southern California. Law enforcement utilized license plate readers to track the stolen vehicle to West Covina in Los Angeles County, where Coleman was apprehended. During the arrest, authorities recovered a safe containing $37,000 that had been stolen from Castle's home, further implicating Coleman in the crime. During his initial court appearance, Coleman did not enter a plea, and the case has been scheduled for a continuation on September 4. He is currently being held at the San Mateo County Jail without bail as the investigation continues.
