Story

In a remarkable display of talent, Angel Reese has become the first player in WNBA history to record at least 20 rebounds in consecutive games. The rookie sensation achieved this feat during the Chicago Sky's narrow 82-80 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Friday night, where she contributed 13 points alongside her 20 rebounds. Just two days later, Reese followed up with another impressive performance, scoring 19 points and grabbing 20 rebounds in an 86-68 defeat against the Phoenix Mercury. Reese's achievement is particularly notable as the last NBA rookie to accomplish back-to-back 20-rebound games was Shaquille O'Neal in April 1993. O'Neal, who also played at LSU, has been a vocal supporter of Reese, who led her college team to its first national championship in 2023. With her double-double on Friday, Reese notched her 21st of the season, just one shy of tying the WNBA rookie record held by Tina Charles, who had 22 in 2010. Despite her individual success, the Sky have struggled recently, losing three of their last four games since the WNBA resumed play after the Olympic break. Currently sitting at 11-17, the eighth-place Sky hold a precarious one-game lead over the Atlanta Dream for the final playoff spot. With 12 games remaining in the regular season, the Sky will look to turn their fortunes around as they return home for a crucial three-game stretch against Las Vegas, Washington, and Indiana.
